Welcome to StudyGeek ("we", "our", or "us"). StudyGeek ("the App") is an AI-powered study planner, flashcard maker, quiz generator, and focus tool designed to help students master subjects efficiently.
We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how data is handled when you download, install, and use StudyGeek (Package Name: com.studygeek.app).
2. Local-First Data Storage & Privacy
- Offline & On-Device Storage: StudyGeek is built with a local-first architecture. All your study decks, flashcards, custom notes, quiz results, study goals, streak progress, and task lists are stored strictly on your local device storage.
- No Server Accounts: StudyGeek does not require you to register, log in, or create a user account on external servers.
- No Tracking or Selling of Personal Data: We do not track your browsing habits, sell your data, or transmit your personal study content to third-party advertising networks.
3. Third-Party Services & API Usage
StudyGeek integrates with select trusted Google services to provide core functionality:
A. Google Gemini API (AI Flashcard & Quiz Generation)
- Optional Feature: If you choose to use AI generation features, you may enter your personal Google Gemini API key.
- Data Transmission: When generating flashcards or quizzes, the specific topic or text prompt you enter is sent directly and securely via HTTPS to Google's Gemini API servers (
https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com).
- Key Security: Your Gemini API key is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded to any intermediate server.
B. Google ML Kit (Camera & PDF OCR Text Recognition)
- On-Device Processing: Text recognition for camera scans and PDF textbook imports is powered by Google ML Kit. All image and text processing occurs locally on your device. Images are not transmitted to external cloud servers.
C. Google Play Billing (In-App Purchases)
- Secure Purchases: Optional lifetime Pro features are processed securely through Google Play Billing. Payment details, credit card numbers, and transaction information are handled entirely by Google Play. StudyGeek does not store or access your payment credentials.
4. Device Permissions
StudyGeek requests only necessary Android permissions to deliver core features:
- INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Required to send AI generation prompts directly to Google's Gemini API and check Google Play Billing status.
- CAMERA (Optional): Requested only when you use the camera scanner to capture photos of study notes or book pages for OCR text recognition.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Optional): Required to display scheduled study reminders and study streak risk alerts.
- SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW (Optional): Required to display the floating flashcard screen overlay over top of other apps during study breaks.
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE: Used to keep focus session timers active and sync progress in the background.
5. Data Safety & Security
- Industry Standard Security: All network calls to external APIs use encrypted HTTPS communication.
- Backup & Restore: StudyGeek includes built-in backup and restore functionality allowing you to export your data as a local JSON file that you control entirely.
6. Children's Privacy
StudyGeek is designed for general audiences, students, and lifelong learners aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy periodically. Any updates will be posted with an updated "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes.
